The trade union official does so in a very special way because he works precisely in the field where the worker and capitalist potentially and actually clash. It is a delicate field for the capitalist. But because of the adaptation of the trade union apparatus to capitalism the trade union official, however good, is a prisoner of capitalism.   Financial meltdown, environmental disaster and even the rise of Donald Trump – neoliberalism has played its part in them all. Why has the left failed to come up with an alternative?

Into the Tempest: Essays on the New Global Capitalism Haymarket Books, reviewed by David Klein. Capitalism’s grow-or-die imperative is driving humanity to the brink of extinction. At the present rate of global greenhouse gas emissions, the climate crisis alone could soon end civilization and destroy the biosphere. L. Sklair, in International Encyclopedia of the Social & Behavioral Sciences, 6 Resistance to Global Capitalism. Global capitalism is often seen in terms of impersonal forces (notably market forces, free trade) wreaking havoc on the lives of ordinary and defenseless people and communities. It is not coincidental that interest in economic globalization has been accompanied by an upsurge.

Global buyers then steered production into a handful of cheap but labor-rich countries. Deregulation led simultaneously to higher DMP (and therefore greater value captured by buyers) and lower spatial inflexibility (and therefore less structural power for workers), since flexible supply chains limited the disruptive potential of workers. In Australia, as elsewhere, the challenge to workers now could scarcely be greater after three decades of neoliberalism bearing down on them in the form of (in)human resource management and anti-union governments. Even the global financial crisis of – gave workers little respite – indeed, neoliberalism was, paradoxically, strengthened and emboldened as there appeared to be no.

Unions are associations between two or more individuals based on a common principle, i.e., marriage, i.e., labor union, i.e., republican government.
